**Speaker 1**
Yeah, do you remember?
**Speaker 1**
I think I'm going to go to the garden.
**Speaker 1**
So, you know, we are in the process of building a whole city of the tree cover for a three-year tree.
**Speaker 1**
And they started on our, this term, I mean, this date, I think, they started building.
**Speaker 1**
So, seriously I wanted to put a walled garden outside and I was expecting to get like $300,000, but if you made $300,000.
**Speaker 1**
So that's a lot of questions though, gardening, and if you want to come sometime for two years, you're welcome.
**Speaker 2**
He's just like I said, the rabbit.
**Speaker 1**
I will say anything but I'll hand you a cookie.
**Speaker 1**
There's a part of this verse that says,
**Speaker 1**
there's a lot of blackout trees and wives so much here in the Lord of Death.
**Speaker 1**
And so we were going to talk about that.
**Speaker 1**
There is a thing called Karmabai.
**Speaker 1**
Say Karmabai.
**Speaker 1**
Karmabai.
**Speaker 1**
Karmabai.
**Speaker 1**
Karmabai.
**Speaker 1**
I remember reading a book by Arne Alvarado.
**Speaker 1**
And they really liked his book.
**Speaker 1**
He's actually a great scholar.
**Speaker 1**
He was a state court gentleman in Asia under the British rule.
**Speaker 1**
He was a British judge.
**Speaker 1**
And then he took a secret name.
**Speaker 1**
He took a bad water and a secret name.
**Speaker 1**
He went to study with yogi all the time.
**Speaker 1**
And he learned to translate the most difficult and obscure tantric facts in his spare time.
**Speaker 1**
And he became very famous about it. He was invited to that theater.
**Speaker 1**
But he became a great tantricist.
**Speaker 1**
I remember reading his book about that.
**Speaker 1**
There is this very serious discussion about, I think it's called Spanda, the initial vibration that creates the world.
**Speaker 1**
So like when you are in a deep state of meditation, you feel like something is still like, maybe you could call it mind itself.
**Speaker 1**
the impulse has created the world. Where did it come from? Even according to Hindu belief, there had to be some...
**Speaker 1**
Things rise from here, and here.
**Speaker 1**
You see? And you sense that in your own body.
**Speaker 1**
Things rise from here, and here.
**Speaker 1**
And the universe is turning.
**Speaker 1**
Something moves. Something shifts.
**Speaker 1**
Something's blurred and the universe popped out.
**Speaker 1**
Even the physics that's struggling with this, right?
**Speaker 1**
A pain barrier is that.
**Speaker 1**
Right?
**Speaker 1**
Like something went, "Hey!"
**Speaker 1**
And then the world came out.
**Speaker 1**
So where did that first...
**Speaker 1**
Where did that come from?
**Speaker 1**
Because in your heart you want to believe in our son's sake.
**Speaker 1**
Ever since the Bible was written and you know, there was a creator,
**Speaker 1**
people needed a first...
**Speaker 1**
I had to pay something out of it.
**Speaker 1**
You know, and then all this stuff started.
**Speaker 1**
And then Arthur Abel struggles with it. He really struggles. Like for 15 pages he struggles with it.
**Speaker 1**
But, you know, and where did he come from? And how did he start eating?
**Speaker 1**
The primordial vibration. So it's here.
**Speaker 1**
And in the fourth, it's like your mind comes from a point. It's the word of karma.
**Speaker 1**
It's the word of karma. It's the word of karma. It's the karmic mint. It's the mint of karma.
**Speaker 1**
This is a long story, there are 80 different variations of it.
**Speaker 1**
But basically it's the good that starts everything.
**Speaker 1**
It's the good that starts your body.
**Speaker 1**
It's just good that's always going on in you.
**Speaker 1**
Even in the deepest state of meditation, even in the state of death, even as you're dying.
**Speaker 1**
The car always like tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, and the wind is like, you're not really moving.
**Speaker 1**
And you're never really dead. You just go on. See?
**Speaker 1**
So it's a very bright subtle wind.
**Speaker 1**
It sounds like a wind that creates life, right?
**Speaker 1**
But it's the wind that creates death.
**Speaker 1**
See? It's the wind that keeps you going to die and die and die again.
**Speaker 1**
Die over and over again.
**Speaker 1**
It goes to things over and over again.
**Speaker 1**
It's a subtle shift that never stops.
**Speaker 1**
It's a subtle vibration in the body that never stops.
**Speaker 1**
And that's responsible for all the suffering as human beings.
**Speaker 1**
It never stops.
**Speaker 1**
And you can't stop it.
**Speaker 1**
In a deeper state of meditation, crunked out, totally drugged out, drunk out of your mind,
**Speaker 1**
there's still this tiny vibration in your mind, carmeling.
**Speaker 1**
If you could stop it, you could go into a period of immortality.
**Speaker 1**
If you could stop it, you could go into a different kind of body, a light body.
**Speaker 1**
You wouldn't be subject to a flesh moment, not anymore.
**Speaker 1**
If you could stop the problem.
**Speaker 1**
So he's talking about here in Mahabandha, right, only,
**Speaker 1**
How would you overcome that? What would you have to do to overcome that?
**Speaker 1**
There is very subtle breathing in the body, very very subtle that makes you normal, that makes you immortal.
**Speaker 1**
If you could stop it, if you could bring it to a stop, total stop, no more vibration in the entire being,
**Speaker 1**
if you could bring it to a total stop, you would shift into another kind of body.
**Speaker 1**
Your body would become made of life. You would become an angel. You would become an angel.
**Speaker 1**
So how does it stop that brain? How does it help that brain?
**Speaker 1**
What is it that stops that brain? Do you hold the breath?
**Speaker 1**
Do you know? It helps! It helps!
**Speaker 1**
You take the mudra, you take the buddha, you hold the breath.
**Speaker 1**
But in the end, what causes that tiny vibration is our constant misunderstanding of our world.
**Speaker 1**
What causes that vibration to keep going is the undercurrent of ignorance that's constant.
**Speaker 1**
At every moment in life it's constant.
**Speaker 1**
In every second of your existence it's constant.
**Speaker 1**
You're always misunderstanding the things from it.
**Speaker 1**
You're always thinking what?
**Speaker 1**
They are not coming from me.
**Speaker 1**
She's out there. He's out there.
**Speaker 1**
The project is out there.
**Speaker 1**
The clock is moving.
**Speaker 1**
And you think it's all separate from you. You think.
**Speaker 1**
You can't believe that you are making that happen. You can't believe that your mind is coming out to happen.
**Speaker 1**
As long as you think like that, that tiny minute is moving.
**Speaker 1**
As long as you think like that, that tiny minute is moving. And it infects that big moment of your life.
**Speaker 1**
You can't live a normal day without having that all the time. This tiny undercurrent of
**Speaker 1**
One idea about everything. If you could stop it, the Kamo language stops and then you wouldn't have to die.
**Speaker 1**
It's very beautiful. It's very beautiful. How do you stop doing that?
**Speaker 1**
You do Mahamudhi Reng. You do Mahamudhi Reng. You do that meditation. You learn that meditation.
**Speaker 1**
You go on Saturday and Sunday to Ramah Nur-Tamah, Ramah verse day.
**Speaker 1**
You learn how to do it formally.
**Speaker 1**
And you just keep working at it.
**Speaker 1**
Week after week, month after month, year after year, you keep working at it.
**Speaker 1**
And sometimes it's strong, sometimes it will.
**Speaker 1**
But it takes change.
**Speaker 1**
It takes formal change.
**Speaker 1**
Don't think it's going to happen if you don't work at it.
**Speaker 1**
It can't happen if you don't work at it.
**Speaker 1**
Someone has to teach you, and then you have to go home and put your butt on the mat.
**Speaker 1**
The idea of learning yoga.
**Speaker 1**
David has a beautiful teacher, a fantastic teacher.
**Speaker 1**
He said, "Yeah, I was asking one day,
**Speaker 1**
let me play a speech that came out in the morning.
**Speaker 1**
We have to spend the other day at the hospital."
**Speaker 1**
"No, no, you're a hospital."
**Speaker 1**
"Really?"
**Speaker 1**
"Yeah, yeah."
**Speaker 1**
"There's a yoga pill."
**Speaker 1**
"Really?"
**Speaker 1**
"Yeah, I'm a pastor."
**Speaker 1**
I can't do something. I can't do something.
**Speaker 1**
And I'm like, "Yeah, well, how can you do it?"
**Speaker 1**
She's like, "Yeah, she's over to take care of it."
**Speaker 1**
And that's it, you know?
**Speaker 1**
Everything that happens should be awesome.
**Speaker 1**
And she says, "Okay, well, give me one."
**Speaker 1**
And she says, "Yeah, you both want out."
**Speaker 1**
And he puts in her hand.
**Speaker 1**
"Is there any instructions? Do I take it in the water or no?"
**Speaker 1**
And he says, "Yeah, yeah, this is one thing.
**Speaker 1**
Before you take it, you do an hour of rest."
**Speaker 1**
I think you did.
**Speaker 1**
So he's got it all that way.
**Speaker 1**
He's got it all that way.
**Speaker 1**
If you're not on your cushion, you can kill that.
**Speaker 1**
If you're not on your cushion, the karma will keep going.
**Speaker 1**
And you'll have to go through terrible stuff.
**Speaker 1**
And the people you've done on your job are terrible stuff.
**Speaker 1**
You have to get on your cushion.
**Speaker 1**
You can't do off such a thing if you're not on your mat.
**Speaker 1**
That's it.
**Speaker 1**
You absolutely have to.
**Speaker 1**
If you don't roll the mat out, you're not going to do it.
**Speaker 1**
If you don't have to push you out, you're not going to do better.
**Speaker 1**
You have to have to travel with and keep in with.
**Speaker 1**
Have your own math and your own meditation.
**Speaker 1**
And they're just part of your life.
**Speaker 1**
You don't go anywhere without money, right?
**Speaker 1**
You don't go to another state without money.
**Speaker 1**
You always got your breakfast ready and your lunch.
**Speaker 1**
You've got to have your meditation.
**Speaker 1**
You've got to have your nap.
**Speaker 1**
It ain't going to happen.
**Speaker 1**
Otherwise it ain't going to happen.
**Speaker 1**
People come to the alternate.
**Speaker 1**
blah blah blah, this couple blah blah blah, that couple, why are you not asking?
**Speaker 1**
Why are you asking? No. But why are you talking? Why are you bothering us?
**Speaker 1**
Year after year we get these talks, year after year, how did it work?
**Speaker 1**
Now this is going to come out and say, "I'm a problem." The first thing we always ask is to say, "Are you asking me?" No.
**Speaker 1**
"Are you asking me?" No. "Just go away, don't bother you."
**Speaker 1**
Okay? It's your only hope. It's your only hope. You can talk in some ways. It's gone.
**Speaker 1**
And then your body changes. This life isn't a space. This life is a temporary weakness.
**Speaker 1**
You know? And you can change everything. Everything will change. You will change everything.
**Speaker 2**
I want to do one more verse.
**Speaker 2**
"Fires and how...
**Speaker 2**
Imagine a woman of exquisite beauty, but without a man.
**Speaker 2**
That's how the great steel and the great luck are.
**Speaker 2**
Bearing oak fruit, should they be done without the spear."
**Speaker 2**
Hmm...
**Speaker 2**
So...
**Speaker 2**
Uh...
**Speaker 2**
So this is a...
**Speaker 2**
This is about our whole reading of the Hatha Yoga Pajibaka in a sense.
**Speaker 2**
You know Master Swatmarama is the potential that he goes through each step of the practice.
**Speaker 2**
He goes through chapter 1 and he goes through the Yamas and he goes through each Akhara step by step.
**Speaker 2**
And then he goes through chapter 2 and he goes through the Pranayamas and he goes through each Pranayama step by step.
**Speaker 2**
And then he's starting on chapter 3 and there you are with Mahabudra and Mahabandha.
**Speaker 2**
And he never explicitly says how to integrate everything in the practice.
**Speaker 2**
But it's assumed that you would have a teacher teaching you this book.
**Speaker 2**
This is the only hint that he ever gives that it's a part of a whole integrated system of practice.
**Speaker 2**
It's a part of a whole series.
**Speaker 2**
It's like you wouldn't just, you know, randomly open the Hatha Yoga Pradipika up one day on your mat and say,
**Speaker 2**
Oh, I'm going to do Mahamudra today.
**Speaker 2**
And then you get right into it and you start, you know, your retention and you're keeping meditative on emptiness.
**Speaker 2**
You know, you don't have to start it.
**Speaker 2**
You have to do a whole series of asanas before you get to the Mahabhudra asana to end.
**Speaker 2**
Because Mahabhudra is actually a more advanced asana.
**Speaker 2**
And you wouldn't start doing a very strong retention in the middle of your Mahabhudra asana
**Speaker 2**
unless you had done a pranayama practice before that.
**Speaker 2**
So this is kind of sketching out, like this is part of a whole integral series of a daily
**Speaker 2**
practice.
**Speaker 2**
What does a daily practice look like?
**Speaker 2**
You do a set time of asana practice every day.
**Speaker 2**
You know, we do, when we're on the road and we're busy, we do an hour of asana practice
**Speaker 2**
a day at least.
**Speaker 2**
When we are in retreat and we have more time, we do an hour and a half to two hours of opera practice every day.
**Speaker 2**
And we do it every day. We don't skip days.
**Speaker 2**
I know that we are very occasionally we skip a day.
**Speaker 2**
One of my teachers here has to be very honest about that.
**Speaker 2**
You know, Sri Sheridan and David G. used to say, "It feels like brushing your teeth."
**Speaker 2**
You know, when you get up in the morning, you do your asana practice.
**Speaker 2**
You brush your teeth every day. You do your asana practice every day.
**Speaker 2**
You know, and if you get in that house every day, then when you don't do it, it feels weird.
**Speaker 2**
You know, it feels like I didn't get dressed in the morning or something like that.
**Speaker 2**
"Oh my god, I didn't do my asanas in the morning and I feel weird to go out the door without giving medicine."
**Speaker 2**
And you can get to that point.
**Speaker 2**
You should also have a daily meditation practice.
**Speaker 2**
It can be very short at the beginning.
**Speaker 2**
It could be even, you're sitting on your yoga mat and you're allowed to do your asanas,
**Speaker 2**
but you do 10 minutes of sitting meditation first.
**Speaker 2**
And that's just part of your asana practice.
**Speaker 2**
You just incorporate it into your daily practice.
**Speaker 2**
And then, you know, you'll start liking it more and more because you'll start getting better at meditation.
**Speaker 2**
And then you'll start wanting to increase it.
**Speaker 2**
And that's the way how it naturally goes.
**Speaker 2**
You know, you shouldn't do more meditation than is fun for you.
**Speaker 2**
Because if you do meditation too long at the beginning, you'll give it up.
**Speaker 2**
So like, start with 10 minutes, then you'll want to go to 15 minutes.
**Speaker 2**
You'll want to go to 20 minutes.
**Speaker 2**
Eventually you'll do half an hour or you'll do an hour of meditation before you're off for practice.
**Speaker 2**
So, you know, we do at least an hour every day.
**Speaker 2**
I mean, just personally, I think people like to know what a mission might go through.
**Speaker 2**
We do an hour, even if we're really, really busy.
**Speaker 2**
Incorporated into that hour is some kind of preliminary practice.
**Speaker 2**
Once you start realizing the connection between what you're doing in your mind and what you're
**Speaker 2**
doing throughout the day and how your practice goes, preliminary practice and meditation becomes
**Speaker 2**
very important.
**Speaker 2**
What's the preliminary practice?
**Speaker 2**
Well, mainly it's practice on our lumbar.
**Speaker 2**
It's practice on our lumbar, our teacher.
**Speaker 2**
It's being thankful that the Hatha Yoga Pacifica lineage was even written.
**Speaker 2**
And it's being thankful that everyone from Jwa Harama on has passed it down in an oral way.
**Speaker 2**
And it has finally reached you because of your holy precious teachers.
**Speaker 2**
And just sitting there for like one minute before your Asana practice and thinking about the kindness of your teachers before you spread your practice.
**Speaker 2**
It opens your heart so much.
**Speaker 2**
And it's like you hardly can do an off-air practice if you don't have that as a beginning.
**Speaker 2**
Because you're all tight and tense and thinking about yourself.
**Speaker 2**
But then you think about being grateful to somebody else.
**Speaker 2**
You think about being grateful to your teachers.
**Speaker 2**
And then, you know, it opens wide.
**Speaker 2**
You have to get to this point where you understand that every single good thing,
**Speaker 2**
Every single good quality that you ever have is because of your holy t-shirt.
**Speaker 2**
You know, I was like, you know, if I think about me myself, I'm like this, you know, I feel like I'm a child laden with mental wishes.
**Speaker 2**
If I think about myself and like how I picture myself.
**Speaker 2**
But then I think about my mama and what my mama has made of me.
**Speaker 2**
And that part of me is perfect.
**Speaker 2**
And it's all my mama.
**Speaker 2**
That part of me is perfect and it's my mama.
**Speaker 2**
It has nothing to do with me.
**Speaker 2**
Every single good quality that I have is from my mama.
**Speaker 2**
And to realize that as we go throughout your day,
**Speaker 2**
You know, to realize that the reason that you are able to teach people is because of the time into your teachers.
**Speaker 2**
And even as you're teaching, you're remembering that.
**Speaker 2**
It's a very powerful practice.
**Speaker 2**
And somehow, I don't really care how it's done.
**Speaker 2**
I don't care if it's some kind of normal sitting thing or if you're on the bus.
**Speaker 2**
You have to think about that every day.
**Speaker 2**
At some point during the day, be some kind of grateful for something.
**Speaker 2**
You know?
**Speaker 2**
you know
**Speaker 2**
it's
**Speaker 2**
get that feeling
**Speaker 2**
in your heart
**Speaker 2**
wow
**Speaker 2**
like my
**Speaker 2**
my holy teachers
**Speaker 2**
are making me
**Speaker 2**
into a totally
**Speaker 2**
new person
**Speaker 2**
a totally new being
**Speaker 2**
that I just
**Speaker 2**
never have gotten
**Speaker 2**
myself
**Speaker 2**
that will
**Speaker 2**
take you
**Speaker 2**
a long way
**Speaker 2**
in your
**Speaker 2**
spiritual practice
**Speaker 2**
it will take you
**Speaker 2**
a long way
**Speaker 2**
and that's all
**Speaker 2**
from
**Speaker 2**
you know
**Speaker 2**
chapter 1
**Speaker 2**
of talking
**Speaker 2**
over the
**Speaker 2**
divica
**Speaker 2**
you know
**Speaker 2**
this is
**Speaker 2**
this is a whole
**Speaker 2**
integrated system
**Speaker 2**
Speaking of which, Medical Tiki is doing meditation on your Lama class at the three Jules event.
**Speaker 2**
Monday, Wednesday, Friday of the next week.
**Speaker 2**
So if you don't know at 10:00 AM, so if you don't know how to do that practice and you want an actual sitting practice to do of Lama, go to Medical Tiki's class.
**Speaker 2**
So then after you get out of your meditation and your pranayama practice, which maybe is like, I don't know, the first 10 minutes before your asana practice.
**Speaker 2**
We do meditation first, and then we do our pranayama practice, and then we do our asana practice.
**Speaker 2**
Then we get up and start the day.
**Speaker 2**
And the rest of your day has to also be an optional practice.
**Speaker 2**
Right?
**Speaker 2**
You can't just do your practice in the morning and then totally forget about yourself the rest of the day
**Speaker 2**
because you now are a karma yogi if you understand that everything you do plans to see in your mind.
**Speaker 2**
And if you are unsupplied to somebody in, you know, the day before,
**Speaker 2**
you wake up the next day and your mind is like this.
**Speaker 2**
You can't meditate at all. You just can't focus because you've educated your mind with a kindness to somebody else.
**Speaker 2**
So you as a yogi need to carry yourself like a yogi throughout the day and that's part of the Hatha Yoga Pranipika practice.
**Speaker 2**
It's part of this whole integral daily thing.
**Speaker 2**
You now identify yourself as a yogi.
**Speaker 2**
You now identify yourself as a spiritual person who can go through life and touch other people and influence them by your behavior.
**Speaker 2**
The people are watching you, your teachers, right?
**Speaker 2**
Your teachers.
**Speaker 2**
And everything you do, they're going to be like, oh, evaluating your spiritual path by your behavior.
**Speaker 2**
What you do is much more important than what you say to them.
**Speaker 2**
What you do in between the talks is much more important than what you say in the talks
**Speaker 2**
because they won't come to the talks if they see you misbehaving afterwards, right?
**Speaker 2**
So now your job as a whole integral practice is to make your life your practice.
**Speaker 2**
So I think that's it.
